Defence Minister Inaugurates BRO Road Projects in Bikaner, Boosting Border Connectivity

Bikaner: The Indian Army and local communities in Bikaner now have improved connectivity following the completion of multiple Border Roads Organisation (BRO) projects, inaugurated virtually by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Part of a larger initiative, the 125 critical road projects were executed at a cost of nearly ₹4,796 crore, benefiting border and remote areas while strengthening national security and local development.

Key Roads Upgraded
Among the newly inaugurated roads, the Birdhawal-Puggal-Bajju stretch, approximately 49 km long, has been upgraded to National Highway standards. This development facilitates smoother travel for civilians and enhances operational mobility, logistics support, and rapid deployment for the armed forces. Other significant projects include:

  • Deversar-Mauwali Talai (8 km)
  • Vakasar-Mavasari (32.5 km)
  • Pithewala Mod-ED Toba-Lundet (115 km)

The Vakasar-Mavasari road, completed by Headquarters 45 Border Roads Force at a cost of ₹303.59 crore, is expected to serve as a new inter-state corridor between Rajasthan and Gujarat, traversing marshy and challenging terrain that previously became impassable during monsoon.

Impact on Local Communities and Defence
These roads are set to improve trade, travel, and employment opportunities in remote villages such as Bajju, while also enabling the armed forces to maintain faster troop deployment and secure supply chains. The projects were executed under challenging conditions, including desert heat and difficult terrain, and were completed efficiently by the BRO Project Chetak team.

Present at the event were Major General Deepak Shivran, GOC of the Bikaner Ranbankura Division, and Suresh Gupta, Chief Engineer of Project Chetak, who lauded the BRO team for their work in enhancing infrastructure in strategic border regions.
